On a hot, flat Georgia highway
Between Tifton and Adele
The sun beat down on billboards
That warned me about Hell

I was raised in a congregation called our Lady of Fear and Guilt
In a church with wooden rafters that someone else besides Jesus built
And I prayed upon the kneelers where Italian ladies sang
‘You got to take the good with the bad’… their timeless… Yin and Yang

I was born at the end of Autumn, just after Halloween
When ancient spirits roam the earth And I’ve lived in between
When it’s getting dark real early, And I could see across both sides
Of the daylight and the nighttime… From the place… where I reside
